Care Home Allergen Management — Full Erudus Data on Every Product
Every product in our care range carries complete Erudus allergen and nutritional data, available to your team on demand. Whether you're updating an allergen matrix, answering a family enquiry, preparing for a CQC inspection, or meeting Natasha's Law obligations, the information you need is one click away — not one phone call and a 48-hour wait.
Care home allergen management isn't a back-office task — it's a clinical and legal responsibility that shapes every meal served. Get it wrong and the consequences range from an unhappy family enquiry to a coroner's inquest. Get it right and your kitchen team has the confidence to plan, cook and serve without second-guessing every label.
The single biggest practical difference between a good food supplier and a poor one, when it comes to care home catering, isn't price or product range. It's whether the data you need is structured, accurate, current, and available the moment you need it.
What We Provide on Every Product
Every line in our care range carries full Erudus allergen and nutritional data — that means more than a label scan. It's structured product data covering:
The 14 named allergens
Presence, traces, cross-contamination risk — for every product, presented consistently and updated as suppliers update their declarations.
Full nutritional data
Energy, fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, protein, salt and fibre per 100g and per portion, ready for menu costing and nutritional analysis.
Ingredient declarations
Complete ingredient lists in declaration order, ready to support PPDS labelling under Natasha's Law and family information requests.
Dietary suitability
Halal, kosher, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary markers where verified by the product supplier.
Country of origin and traceability
Source country, packing country and batch traceability data for full supply chain transparency.
Live updates
When a supplier changes a recipe or reformulates a product, the Erudus data updates automatically — no waiting on email circulars or PDF spec sheets.
The 14 Allergens You Need to Manage
UK food law requires the 14 named allergens to be declared in writing or verbally for any food sold or provided. Every product in our care range carries clear data for all 14:
- Celery
- Cereals containing gluten
- Crustaceans
- Eggs
- Fish
- Lupin
- Milk
- Molluscs
- Mustard
- Tree nuts
- Peanuts
- Sesame seeds
- Soybeans
- Sulphites
For each product, your team sees presence, traces, cross-contamination flags, and supplier declarations — the same data the Food Standards Agency expects you to be working from.
Natasha's Law and Care Home Catering
Natasha's Law (the Food Information Amendment) came into force in October 2021 following the death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who suffered a fatal allergic reaction to a baguette that didn't carry an allergen declaration. The law requires PPDS (prepacked for direct sale) food to carry full ingredient and allergen information on the label.
Care homes are touched by these requirements when:
- Pre-prepared food is sold or supplied through a café, deli counter or takeaway service
- Pre-packed snacks, sandwiches or meals are made on-site for sale to staff, visitors or residents
- Food is prepared in advance and packed for off-site delivery
- Meals are provided to other facilities (sister sites, partner organisations) on a pre-packed basis
Even where a home isn't strictly within PPDS scope, the principle of accurate, accessible allergen information applies — and CQC inspectors, family members and care commissioners increasingly expect the same standards.
Our full Erudus data gives your kitchen team the source information needed to comply confidently, with structured ingredient declarations ready to populate PPDS labels and information sheets.
Ready for CQC Inspection — Without the Last-Minute Scramble
CQC inspectors increasingly focus on food safety and allergen management as part of Safe and Effective ratings. Common inspection questions include:
- Can you show me the allergen information for the meals served this week?
- How do you record and communicate residents' individual allergen and dietary needs?
- Where does your supplier provide allergen data, and how often is it updated?
- What's your process if a supplier reformulates a product?
- Can you produce nutritional analysis for residents on specific care plans?
With full Erudus data on every product, those answers are available to your kitchen team in real time — not buried in a folder of out-of-date spec sheets. Inspection-readiness becomes a daily standard, not an annual fire drill.
Common Questions About Care Home Allergen Management
What is Erudus and why does it matter?
Erudus is the UK foodservice industry's standard product data platform, used by manufacturers, wholesalers and operators to share structured allergen, nutritional and traceability data. It matters because it gives care home kitchens a single, current, reliable source of product information — replacing scattered PDFs, out-of-date spec sheets and supplier emails. Learn more at erudus.com.
Do all your products carry Erudus data?
Every product in our care range carries full Erudus allergen and nutritional data. Across the wider Rylance Farm Foodservice catalogue, the vast majority of products carry Erudus data — and we work with suppliers to extend coverage continuously.
How do we access the data day-to-day?
Erudus data is accessible through the Erudus platform itself, through our ordering portal, and on request directly from our team. Your kitchen can pull allergen and nutritional information at the point of menu planning, order placement, or service.
What happens when a supplier reformulates a product?
When a supplier updates ingredients or allergen declarations through Erudus, the data updates automatically — your kitchen sees the new information as soon as it's published. We also flag significant reformulations to our care customers directly.
Does Erudus data cover Natasha's Law requirements?
Yes. Erudus provides the structured ingredient declarations and allergen data needed to populate PPDS labels and information sheets. Where you're operating within PPDS scope, our data gives you the source information your labelling needs.
Can you provide nutritional analysis for resident care plans?
Yes. Energy, macronutrient and salt data are available per product, ready for nutritional analysis at the menu or care plan level. Our chef-to-chef support team can help with menu costing and nutritional analysis where useful.
What if a product doesn't have full Erudus data?
For any product where the standard data isn't available, our team will work with the supplier to obtain the declaration directly, or recommend an equivalent product that does carry full data. We won't leave you without the information you need.
Is this offer specific to care customers or available across all sectors?
Full Erudus data is available across our customer base, but care customers benefit from a curated care range where Erudus coverage is comprehensive and prioritised — and where chef-to-chef and account team support is structured around care-specific requirements.
